What I’m Doing Now

  • Since about March 15, we have been staying at home due to the Coronavirus pandemic. All of our band rehearsals and performances have been cancelled. My steel band, Rhythm is Life, has been holding weekly video hangouts just to stay in touch with each other. RIL has also recorded a video collage of Lazy Song, by Bruno Mars, with each member recording his/her part at home. Hopefully, the editing will be finished soon.
  • Converting music and videos.   All of the extra time at home has enabled me to tackle a project I’ve been meaning to do for years. I am ripping many of my old vinyl records to digital and converting many of my old VHS jazz concert videos and documentaries to DVD. I will then get rid of the old media, freeing up a lot of space in our music room.
  • Household projects. I have trimmed back a lot of the overgrown plants in the back yard. Today, Jeff and I installed a new disposal – the first time either of us has attempted such a task. Next, we are going to install security screen doors on our front door and two back doors.

What I’m Reading Now

I am now re-reading Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City series. I read this series a long time ago, but I have forgotten most of it and it is almost new to me now. I decided to read the series again in order to learn what I can from his writing style. I am now partway through the fifth book, Significant Others.

What I’m Listening to Now

I usually do most of my music listening in my car, but now that I am driving so little, I don’t have the opportunity to listen much. But I am enjoying rediscovering some of the old music on my vinyl records as I rip them.
